Assisi SSF

Assisi offers retreat and guest accommodation – click here for more information

Assisi is where it all began – the home of Francis and Clare, a place that continues to inspire men and women to follow Christ as they did. In a way it is the home of all Franciscans. It is only natural then for us to have a base here. One of our friars was here for a time in the 70s and again from October 2005 until May 2012. From July 2012 Third Order SSF priests will be in attendance. They have been asked to serve the Anglican Chaplaincy in Assisi for periods of 3 months at a time. Isolated geographically from the rest of SSF it tries to be a ‘home from home’ in the city of Francis, and at the same time to raise the awareness of Francis’ wider appeal to other Christians in the midst of the numerous Roman Catholic Franciscan communities.

There is a pleasant 2nd floor apartment with views from a balcony over the rooftops of Assisi. It is close to the centre of Assisi with restaurants and shops less than a five minute walk away. The Anglican Franciscan presence in Assisi is also important in providing assistance and advice to visitors, groups and individuals, and a major task is to provide an Anglican chaplaincy within the context of the diocese. There is a small chapel in the apartment for the use of small groups and the Anglican Chaplaincy has the use of St Leonard’s Church for Sunday worship and special occasions. On many a Sunday visitors outnumber the regular congregation.

As well as a room for the Chaplain and spouse there is also 1 twin bedroom and 1 single bedroom (en-suite) which are available at certain times to guests on a self-catering basis, sharing use of the kitchen by agreement with the resident Chaplain.

Bookings can be arranged through Sara Whistance via telephone 01300 342311 or email: passf@franciscans.org.uk
