To locate Hilfield Friary geographically . . .
Click here to see the map; please feel free to print it.
From Dorchester, follow the A37 north about eleven miles;
at the Clay Pigeon corner, turn right at sign to Minterne Magna,
then right again on Haydon Lane (the celtic escarpment road),
along for a mile or so, then second left down a steep hill (called Great Head Lane, though not indicated);
the Friary is in the centre of the triangle at the bottom of the hill.
From Yeovil, follow the A37 south about eleven miles,
at the Clay Pigeon corner (at the top of the hill after a sign to Batcombe), turn left at sign to Minterne Magna,
then right again on Haydon Lane (the celtic escarpment road),
along for a mile or so, then second left down a steep hill (called Great Head Lane, though not indicated);
the Friary is in the centre of the triangle at the bottom of the hill.
From Sherborne, follow the A352 south about three miles,
at Lanes Cottages (just after the first sign to Hilfield, which you ignore) turn right on Haydon Lane (the celtic
escarpment road),
along for a mile or so, then right down a steep hill (called Great Head Lane, though not indicated);
the Friary is at the centre of the triangle at the bottom of the hill.
