Most of us take an interest in the lives of others, and this book takes the form of a selection of cameos with fascinating stories given through the editor’s interviews with sixteen friars, sisters, and lay members of the Dominican Order. While all but one of the conversations took place in Europe, the writers speak of ministry in different parts of the world; and reveal varying levels and unexpected aspects of human integrity and devotion.

The book does not tell us what the Dominican Way is, nor does it give details of their Rule of Life. Rather, it is a book by people about people; and as Father Timothy Radcliffe says in his introduction, ‘… if we are to find the right way forward as a community, we must listen to everyone, and there is no point in doing this unless everyone has the freedom and courage to say what he or she really believes.’ Hence in these conversations the real essence of Dominican life is portrayed, showing how men and women of many different cultures can be brothers and sisters together.
