The purpose of this Lenten period is to prepare ourselves, as the people of God, for the annual celebration of the death and resurrection of our Lord. The season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and concludes with Holy Week which has its own character. This is indicated by a change in the liturgical colour from purple to crimson.
