| Naming and Circumcision of Jesus |
| the covenant. And his naming, as so often in the bible, shows who he will become. Jesus means ‘God saves’; a promise of the new covenant, a promise to hold on to as we begin a new year. Bonaventure tells us that Francis loved this name.
“When Francis pronounced the word ‘Jesus’ or heard someone say it, he was filled with joy and he seemed to be completely transformed, as if he had suddenly tasted something marvellous or caught the strain of a beautiful harmony.” (‘The Major Life of St Francis’ by Bonaventure) |
