franciscan - September 2004© The Society of Saint Francis, 2004 Julian
Two windows to the world were yours. One, square reality in solid stone, opened to sound and sight of the humdrum street; and to shout and curse and tread of feet and mire of inhumanity there was no pause.
The other, mirror for that wealth you taught, led you to see in insubstantial Love the son et lumière that is the ground, in fact, of all that is. Infinity you found in a nutshell, mandala purely wrought.
You knew, of course, from this, that one could never be without the other, that Love looks through the window from the street and brings reflection, from our humanity, that sings and shines with the light of the eternal Son.
