Living Stones
Third Order Chapter at York
2nd - 4th July 1999
Over 550 SSF Tertiaries from the European Province gathered at York for their General Chapter, bringing with them 550 stones and then taking 550 different stones back again!
There were guests from the First and Second Orders of SSF, the (RC) Secular Franciscan Order, the Franciscan
Study Centre at Canterbury, a Franciscan Fraternity in Spain, and Father Max Mizzi, OFM Conv. from Assisi.
‘Knit together in community and prayer - open and ready to include all people’ was the theme.
Bishop Richard Holloway, Primus, Scottish Episcopal Church, gave a keynote address, reminding us to ‘remember our Franciscan vision’ and to adopt an ecclesiology of Life, responding positively to God’s unconditional love, rather than one of Death, which led to ‘careful, frightened lives’.
