Welcoming the Stranger
Our last issue was warmly welcomed by our readers. This is understandable and encouraging – our readers are
our friends, they are interested in and concerned for the Society of Saint Francis, that is why they read
franciscan.
If that issue explored the vocation of SSF as found in individual members, this one could be read as an extension
of that, an indicator of our corporate vocation as Christians and Franciscans. Like Francis, may we discover that
as we welcome the stranger we embrace the Christ. So, may this issue have as warm a welcome as its predecessor
as we learn together to seek out the strangers among us – and, in the encounter, let us pray for a mutual experience
of Christ and his gospel.
