Most Franciscan communities are part of the Roman Catholic Church. SSF has close links with many of them and friendly relations exist between Anglican Franciscans and Franciscans in other Churches.

The Order of Saint Clare (OSC) is the Franciscan Second Order and is constituted of active and contemplative communities.
